Love of Life

          Jonathan Marcus

In vast granular fluids of sound
we're minnows of the deep
awash in the aural ocean

at play in the aural ocean
eardrum and larynx
tender membranes
stretched
like drumskins and flute-reeds

tender membranes
like lips

to taste the world,
whisper into larger membranes
kiss them

and so become
the part of life
that hears itself singing

home, baby
